Literature:  "The addition of color to saltglaze necessitated a second firing, in a muffle kiln, at substantially lower temperature than the first, but sufficient to vitrify the colored enamel glazes...As would be expected, the great majority of the early colored salt-glazed pieces were decorated in imitation of Chinese famille rose porcelains but genre scenes, Jacobite subjects to popular heroes were also prevalent although not as common as the chinoiserie...There are no marked pieces of salt-glazed stoneware, so that any attributions are matters of deduction based on what few records have been preserved."  A similar tea pot and cover described on page 82 #261  Source: The Burnap Collection of English Pottery by Ross E.
